Tomato Pulao is a tasty tangy rice dish that is just delicious and taste great when paired with raita.

  • 2cups basmati rice
  • 3cups Water
  • 1 Onion chopped
  • 2 tomatoes chopped with the peel on
  • 1/2cup tomato paste
  • 1tbsp yoghurt
  • 1/2tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp Coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp Shahzeera
  • 1/2 tsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 2 sticks of Cinnamon
  • 2 Cloves
  • 2 Cardamons
  • Salt to taste
  • Coriander-finely chopped
  • 2tbsp ghee
  • 2tbsp oil
  • Wash and soak the rice for half an hour.
  • Take a pan and add the oil and ghee .Then add the spices;shahzeera,cinnamon sticks,cloves,cardamons and pepper.
  • Once they splutter in the oil,add chopped onions and fry them till they are translucent.Then add turmeric and coriander powder.
  • Then add ginger-garlic paste,chopped tomato,tomato paste and yoghurt.
  • Cook until the mixture thickens and add water and salt.As soon as the water boils,add rice by draining the soaked water.
  • Sprinkle a few coriander leaves and let it cook on medium flame by stiring now and then.
  • When you find very little water left,reduce the heat and cook with lid on.
  • Once the rice is cooked.Serve hot.
